Why Do I Camp?

A good friend of mine asked me awhile back… "why do I camp so much?"
I think about camping a lot. I have for years. Everywhere you look in nature there is beauty to behold, in the sky, in the mountains, in the hills, in the flowers, and the colors throughout the year.
I look for stories written in the rocks, the water and wildlife. History is all around us. It’s amazing what you can discover.
Everyone you ask has a different reason for camping. Me? To disconnect even for a short period of time from technology and the happenings around home and in the world around us.
Although we live in a beautiful state and enjoy wildlife in our own backyard… it’s not enough.
I could not imagine going through my life and not experiencing Black Bears, Elk, Buffalo, Coyotes, Bald Eagles, Moose, Prairie Dogs, Antelope, Musk Ox, Osprey, Alligators, Long Horn Sheep, Road Runners, Salmon swimming upstream in the wild. Shall I go on? I could, but I’m not.
I could post a whole book of pictures of various
wildflowers, sunsets, sunrises, full moons, lakes, oceans, sand dunes, mountains and deserts and maybe one day I will as not to forget the beauty of nature.
Seeing and identifying the stars and the constellations away from city lights, sitting around a campfire and telling stories we have told a million times but still enjoy hearing.
Meals that are cooked over an open fire are the best meals you will ever eat.

Spending time with family and friends… meeting new ones along the way… exploring… discovering and counting my blessings.
Is there one answer to my friend’s question? No there is not.
People either love it or they hate it… But for me…
I feel at peace with nature.
Hope this answers your question my friend?
Until next time…
